Introducing DaffSeek!

DaffSeek is a daffodil query system sponsored by the American Daffodil Society for the purpose of providing useful information and photos to our Internet visitors.   There are approximately 8,500 photographs in the database, so the system provides a means to identify many daffodils visually.   These photos were contributed by over 100 photographers throughout the world.  Therefore, the photo you see may have been taken of a flower growing in Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the United States, or many other countries.  In some cases, there are multiple photos for one daffodil.

To use the system, one can quickly build a query that will return only the desired results.   There are six drop down boxes, out of thirteen possible search criteria.  If someone wants to know all the ADS approved miniatures, using the 'Height' drop down box and submitting the query will return the full list.  Another example for use of a drop down box is to find a group of historic daffodils which can be done by using the 'Year Modifier' drop down box beside year to narrow down a timeframe.

A person may build a more sophisticated query to gather information about a group of daffodils.  For example, if a person wants to know all the Division 1 daffodils with the 'Pink' in the name that were hybridized in the United States, the query would be made by doing the following steps:

  1. put 'pink' in the 'Flower Name' area
  2. select Division 1 from the 'Division' drop down box
  3. select United States from the 'Country' drop down box
  4. press 'Submit Query'

If someone is interested in finding out details about a specific daffodil and already knows the name, they can just enter the daffodil name into the 'Flower Name' box and press Submit Query'.  In rare cases, there are multiple daffodils with identical names.   If someone only knows a part of the name, the person can enter this into the "Flower Name' box and submit their query.  The results will be a list of all daffodils which have this partial name in their name.

Hybridizers can use the system to find seed and pollen parents in addition to the number of Chromosomes.  As this system evolves, we plan to provide improved parentage and fertility information.

Now it is your turn...time to use the system  There is information for over 17,000 daffodil varieties.  Soon, narcissus species information and photos will be included. The American Daffodil Society would like to thank our many contributing photographers for the use of their photos.  However, as a user, we ask that you respect the photographers' copyright.  If you would like the use of a photo, please email DaffSeek photographs to request permission.
